Abstract

Disability is any person who has physical, sensory, mental and intellectual limitations within a certain period of time so that they experience limitations in carrying out daily activities. Disabilities are a vulnerable group that often experience discriminatory behavior. The large number of persons with disabilities causes various problems such as poverty, welfare, health, and others. One solution to overcome this problem is community empowerment. In community empowerment, one that is considered important is social capital. Social capital plays an important role in community empowerment. Social capital is also expected to be able to have an optimal impact in efforts to empower people with disabilities in Sedayu District. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The research was conducted at the Pinilih Sedayu Disabled Family Forum, Bantul Regency. The results showed that the condition of disabled empowerment in Kapanewon Sedayu based on economic capacity, ability to access welfare benefits, and cultural and political abilities had increased after the Pinilih Disabled Family Forum was established. One way to increase the empowerment of people with disabilities is by utilizing social capital owned by the Pinilih Disabled Family Forum. Social capital is in the form of trust, norms and values, and networks. Utilization of social capital at the Pinilih Sedayu Disabled Families Forum has an impact on increasing institutional capacity, increasing member resource capacity, increasing social inclusion, improving disabled health, and increasing disabled work opportunities.
