Abstract

This research is a quantitative study that aims to find out how financial behavior influences personal financial distress with moderated religiosity among students in Special Region Yogyakarta in 2023. This research uses primary data obtained through distributing questionnaires. Sampling was done by using purposive sampling method with a sample of 100 students. Data analysis used MRA analysis with the help of SPSS version 26. Simultaneous test results showed consumption, saving and investment, financial debt, and religiosity had a significant effect on personal financial distress. The results of the MRA (moderated regression analysis) analysis show that partially saving and investment, religiosity, and consumption with moderated religiosity have a negative and significant effect on personal financial distress. The variable saving and investment and financial debt moderated by religiosity has a positive and significant effect on personal financial distress. The consumption variable has no significant positive effect on personal financial distress. Meanwhile, the financial debt variable has no significant negative effect on personal financial distress. The R Square value or the influence of the independent variables and moderating variables in this study on personal financial distress is 36.1%, while the remaining 68.8% is influenced by other variables not measured in this regression model.
