Abstract

Student Physics learning outcomes on light refraction material are still low requiring efforts to improve, one of which is by applying a project based learning learning model. This study aims 1) to know the application of project based learning learning models on light refraction material. 2) Knowing the learning outcomes obtained by students after applying the project based learning learning model. 3) Knowing the effectiveness of applying the project based learning learning model to student learning outcomes in light refraction material. This research is a quantitative research with the type of pre-experimental research. In this study, the design of the pre-test and post-test one group design was used. Project based learning learning model with syntax developed by The George Lucas Educational Foundation. The steps for project based learning consist of: 1) Start with the Essential Question, 2) Designing a Plan for the Project, 3) Create a Schedule, 4) Monitoring the Students and the Progress of the Project 5) Assess the Outcome 6) Evaluate the Experience. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. This research was applied to one experimental class. The research instrument is a question sheet. The questions used in this study were in the form of multiple choice cognitive tests to measure student learning outcomes. Before using the content validated questions onducted by material experts. The empirical validity test was tested on class XII students and analyzed using product moment correlation. Next, the question is tested for reliability. Data analysis uses N-gain to determine an increase in pretest and posttest scores. Projects made on light refraction materials, namely clear beams and clear prisms. The results of the study are the posttest average score (learning outcomes) obtained by students, namely 82.27 with a minimum completeness criteria value of 75. The average score obtained by students has exceeded the specified minimum completeness criteria. The N-Gain average for student scores is 0.71 with g > 0.7, which is included in the high category. Classical completeness of students is 88.9% students score above the minimum completeness criteria which means complete. Based on the test data it can be concluded that, the project based learning model is effective in increasing student learning outcomes at MAN 2 Yogyakarta.
