Abstract

Information literacy services for librarians must cooperate with users in using information correctly so that they are able to be responsible for the information obtained. At this time, various media began to emerge which made every individual free to access information. This Results in users of information not being able to distinguish between correct and incorrect information. This study aims to determine the role of librarian information literacy, supporting and inhibiting factors in the process of librarian information literacy in preventing the spread of hoax news especially among users. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with reference to The Big6 Mike Einsberg and Bob Berkowitz. The characteristics of this study by conduction field research. In this study, informants were selected using a purposive sampling technique. And then, data collection uses preservation methods, interviews, and documentation related to research. Data analysis used is data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The Results of the study show that the role of information literacy at the role of information literacy at the IAIN Palopo librarian still needs to be inproved, especially in counteracting hoax news. The efforts made by librarians were limited to distributing pamphlets about the dangers of hoax news on various library social media platforms. The library has also never held a program related to the dangers of hoax news because there is no specific budget for this program. Through this research, the authors found that librarians have a role as agents of information literacy. Librarians who have information literacy skills will be able to distinguish quality and correct information compared to librarians who do not have information literacy skills
