Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has had an impact on the education sector. Which then made the students of SMA Muhammadiyah 4 Yogyakarta experience a decrease in their interest in learning. The ineffective control strategy of SMA Muhammadiyah 4 Yogyakarta teachers in learning that needs to be done to increase students’ interest in learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. Due to this supporting policy, the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) issued a circular regarding the implementation of education during the Covid-19 emergency, in which all educational activities were boldly diverted. Teaching and learning activities that are carried out boldly create new obstacles for teachers in providing subject matter and guidance to students. The type of research used in this research is a qualitative descriptive research method, namely finding facts with the right interpretation to find out how the teacher’s communication control strategy is in arousing interest in learning during the Covid-19 pandemic at SMA Muhammadiyah 4 Yogyakarta. Data were obtained from interviews, observation and documentation using Miller and Steinberg’s communication control strategy theory. The results of this study indicate that the strategy used by Mupat SMA teachers is quite effective by using the theory that has been explained in the framework of thinking. The strategy that’the teacher applies to the use of these three strategies is because in dealing wit’ students it is necessary to use imbalances or punishments and motivation, namely giving warnings or advice without giving imbalances or punishments so that students’ learning interest can be achieved.
