Abstract

The development of digital media has made smartphone an essential device for most people. The increase in smartphone usage parallels the increasing amount of application made for it. Application development goes through many processes, one of it is the design process. Modelling the User Interface (UI) that will be used in the application is the main focus of the design process. A good UI need to be followed by a good User Experience (UX) too. The use of Graphical User Interface (GUI) could affect how good the UI/UX will be. GUI have many elements that can affect user’s experience of the application. In making the design, it is necessary to choose suitable GUI. This reseach was conducted by distributing questionnaire to smarphone users. The quessionnaire contain examples of the usage of some GUI elements for specified conditions. Results from the questionnaire will be analysed to find the GUI elements that are most likely to be preferred by the wider community. Calculating margin of error has a role to reflect the views from the overall population. From the research results, it was found which GUI elements preferred by the people who use smartphone. These preferences will be a recommendation for designers in developing a mobile application’s design. Recommendations are selected based on the comfort level by the user which became a benchmark in user satisfaction as one of the components in usability.
