Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between social support and optimism on the happiness of honorary teachers in the Special Region of Yogyakarta and West Nusa Tenggara. The subjects of the study were 642 (N= 642) honorary teachers in the Special Region of Yogyakarta and West Nusa Tenggara. Using a happiness scale adapted from the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire, a social support scale using a scale adapted from the Multidimesional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and an optimism scale using a scale adapted from the Life Orientation Test- Revised (LOT-R). The method used is correlational quantitative. Data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. The results of the research show that the hypothesis is accepted. The results of the regression analysis obtained F = 245,252 and the sig. 0.000 (p <0.05), meaning that there is a positive relationship between social support and optimism for happiness. T test value to indicate a significant positive relationship. The results of the social support variable with a t value were obtained with a value of 20,353 and sig. 0.000 (p <0.05), which means it is significant while the optimism variable obtains a t value of 3.699 with sig. 0.000 (p <0.05), meaning significant. So it can be stated that the two independent variables affect the dependent variable, namely happiness. Social support and optimism make an effective contribution of 43.3% to happiness while an effective contribution of 56.7% is provided by other variables not mentioned in this study.
