Abstract

Nowadays, publishing and printing industries have been facing significant challenges that lead to declining market share as compared to previous decade. The outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic has brought about increasingly massive digitalization along with the government policy to change the traditional face-to-face classroom session with online learning systems. Digitalization in the world of publishing has posed an irony for business people involved in the industry of printed book publishing. This policy has a considerable impact on many publishing and printing companies as they have been increasingly finding it difficult to maintain turnover, and some of them even went out of business. This study, however, examined CV Citra Pustaka, a publishing and printing company, as the primary research object, given its adaptability and survivability by maintaining its sale performance amid the onslaught of digitalizing school materials during the Covid-19 pandemic. The purpose of this study was to find out how religiosity based on Islam and organizational culture affect employee performance with work motivation as an intervening variable. Using a quantitative approach this study selected the samples through non-probability sampling with saturated sample techniques. Questionnaires were distributed to all 103 employees of CV Citra Pustaka, who served as respondents. The research hypothesis was tested using the Pearson Product Moment correlation method, while a statistical hypothesis test was carried out using ANOVA. The path analytical method was used to analyze the relationship between variables. It was revealed that both Islamic religiosity and organizational culture had an indirect effect on employee performance through work motivation as an intervening variable. However, Islamic religiosity had no significant direct effect on employee performance, while organizational culture had a direct significant positive effect on employee performance, which was even stronger than its indirect effect on employee performance. This study also found that organizational culture was the variable with the most dominant influence on employee performance compared to Islamic religiosity and work motivation.
