Abstract

Thus far, formal dialogue has not succeeded in fostering harmonious interreligious relationship. This is due to a stalemate in the formal discussion about the text of the scriptures and the canonical of each faith. Because interreligious conversation frequently involves elite and non-universal circles, not everyone has access to it. This thesis examines Pope Francis' Church Encyclical (Laudato Si', Human Fraternity, Fratelli Tutti) in greater depth as a paradigm of interreligious dialogue. The third encyclical is founded on the values of the Second Vatican Council, when the Church began to embrace non-Christian religions. This study attempts to examine the qualities of social capital by framing civic engagement in each encyclical, as well as how it contributes to the dynamics of interreligious dialogue, particularly in Indonesia. In practice, the authors evaluate the three encyclicals' qualities, compare them, and assess their contribution to Putnam's civic engagement and Knitter’s social action. The researcher discovered that, as a model of interreligious dialogue, the Encyclicals of Laudato Si', Document on Human Fraternity, and Fratelli Tutti call on all religious communities to work together to achieve universal fraternity. Pope Francis underlined the importance of being intimately involved (engaged) in the continuation of common prosperity. Furthermore, Francis and Shaykh el-Tayeb committed on incorporating the Human Fraternity Document's interpretation into policies, decisions, legislative texts, and materials. According to researchers, the Encyclical Laudato Si', Human Fraternity, and Fratelli Tutti can be implemented as an alternative dialogue model in Indonesia, which places social action in a critical position and necessitates shared engagement with society. As the pioneer of social action in Indonesia, the Catholic Church has converted Knitter's five social action into practical applications
