Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has made people more dependent on technology, especially students. The learning process that is usually carried out at school is forced to study online at home. Presence smartphone is considered to be a supporting medium to support student learning activities at home. Because of the ease of accessing information along with advanced features, students often spend their time playing smartphone excessively. Due to smartphone usage, it poses a risk of smartphone addiction to students. In order to reduce smartphone addiction to students, students are given information services with audiovisual media. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of information services with audiovisual media to reduce smartphone addiction in students. This research uses the method true experimental design pretest-posttest control group design which consists of an experimental class and a control class. The population of this research is students of class VIII SMP Muhammadiyah 9 Yogyakarta. Sampling using technique cluster random sampling. Data collection tool using a smartphone addiction scale by Kwon, et al in Nadia Innara. Data analysis using paired sample t tests with the help of the SPSS program. The results of the study stated that the hypothesis was accepted, as evidenced by the significance value in the experimental class of 0.000 (p<0.05) while in the control class of 0.284 (p>0.05). So it can be concluded that information services with audiovisual media are effective in reducing smartphone addiction in students.
