Abstract

Gadgets are part of everyone's activities, regardless of age. Gadgets are used to communicate, support work, study, and play games. Many users cannot control when playing games. Many children are addicted, so a pattern of communication between parents and children is needed. This study analyzes communication patterns between mothers and children so they don't get addicted to playing gadgets. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, which is a method for describing an event under study. Collecting data in this study using observation techniques, interviews, literature study, and documentation. While the validity of the data using cross check technique. Then data analysis uses data reduction techniques, categorization, data display and conclusion. The results of the study show that there are three communication patterns between mother and child when playing gadgets, namely authoritarian, liberating and democratic communication patterns. [1] A mother gives rigid rules to children not to play gadgets too much. If violated the child gets sanctions. The goal is for children to become disciplined. [2] A mother frees her child to play gadgets at will. Even the type of game installed is never controlled. [3] A mother gives directives democratically about the bad effects of using gadgets. In addition, children are invited to play together, and set an example by not playing with gadgets when with children. This study shows that democratic communication patterns have led to discipline based on awareness, not because of fear of punishment.
