Abstract

Quarter life crisis is an emotional crisis that often occurs in the transition phase from adolescence to adulthood or is called emerging adulthood. This crisis is synonymous with a feeling of being trapped, confused about the certainty of the future, doubtful about the choices taken and feeling threatened by the various pressures that are felt. Therefore it is important for individuals to have the provisions to deal with crises so that they are not trapped for too long, in this case family support can also help individuals overcome crises. This study aims to determine the relationship between parental secure attachment to quarter life crises in individuals who are in the emerging adulthood stage. The subjects in this study amounted to 192 respondents with age criteria of 18 to 29 years. The data in this study were collected using a measuring instrument scale, namely the safety attachment scale of adopting parents from IPPA (Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment) compiled by Amrsden and Greenberg in 1987 and translated into Indonesian by researchers as well as the quarter life crisis scale which compiled by the researchers themselves. The sample in this study was taken using the accidental sampling technique and the data analysis method used multiple linear regression analysis for the major and minor hypotheses. The results of this study found that the major hypothesis was accepted, namely that there was a significant negative relationship between parental secure attachment and quarter life crisis, which means that the higher the level of secure attachment of parents, the lower the level of quarter life crisis, and vice versa. In this analysis the researcher also added demographic variables, namely age, gender, education, occupation, place of residence, romantic relationship status, parents' marital status and parents' condition. However, after adding the demographic variables, the results show that only the age factor has a significant relationship with the quarter life crisis. Furthermore, for the minor hypothesis in this study is to look at the relationship between aspects of parental attachment, namely trust, communication and alienation to the quarter life crisis and found results that only alienation and communication has an influence on the quarter life crisis.
