Abstract

This study aims to analyze what mahmudah morals' character of Khadijah in the film Merindu Cahaya de Amstel using Roland Barthes's semiotic approach. This study identifies the semiotic signs used in the film to represent Khadijah's morals. The research involves structural analysis of the signs in the film. The semiotic signs studied include Khadijah's behavior, her social interactions, and the dialogues involving the character. The data obtained were analyzed using Barthes' concepts such as denotation, connotation, and myth. The results of the analysis show that the film Merindu Cahaya de Amstel uses various semiotic signs to represent Khadijah's morals. Khadijah's behavior always pays attention to attitudes as a Muslim, such as helping each other, always doing good, wearing the hijab and not having free sex habbit. The social interactions carried out by khadijah ia good morals such as saying greetings, apologizing easily, speaking and saying gentle words. This research provides further understanding of how the representation of Khadijah's morality is realized in the film through the use of semiotic signs. This study contributes to broadening knowledge about film analysis and also exploring the noble morals embodied in the representation of female characters in the context of everyday life.
