Abstract

This study aims to analyze development communication in realizing a religious city carried out by the Mayor of Bengkulu. The development of a religious city refers to local government efforts to create an environment that supports religious life for its citizens, promotes religious teachings, and facilitates optimal religious activities. This research method is a qualitative research with a case study approach. Data were obtained through interviews with the Mayor of Bengkulu, and the general public. Apart from that, document analysis and field observations were also carried out to gain a thorough understanding of the development communication of a religious city. The results of the study show that effective communication between the Mayor of Bengkulu and various city stakeholders plays an important role in realizing the vision of becoming a religious city. Open, inclusive and responsive communication allows the government to understand the needs and aspirations of the community regarding religious life. The application of two-way communication also increases the active participation of citizens in the process of building a religious city. The importance of communication in the process of building a religious city is to create a common understanding of the goals and benefits of religious projects. In addition, good communication can help overcome differences and conflicts that may arise in the implementation of religious city development programs. This research also highlights the role of mass media and digital communication platforms in strengthening communication in the development of religious cities. Through the mass media, the government can convey information about development programs and create public awareness about the importance of realizing a religious city. In conclusion, effective communication between the Mayor of Bengkulu and various stakeholders and the role of the mass media is very important in realizing a religious city. In facing various social and cultural challenges, good communication will help strengthen the inculcation of religious values and improve the quality of religious life for Bengkulu city residents.
