Abstract

Indonesia is an agricultural country that has abundant natural wealth. Especially in the agricultural sector, rice is the main commodity produced in Indonesia. It is proven that Indonesia's rice production data is sufficient for people's consumption needs. However, in reality, under these conditions, Indonesia still imports rice. Imports become a problem when countries do not meet their needs. So research needs to be done to find out the causes of rice imports that occurred in Indonesia. This study aims to determine whether the factors of rice production, rice consumption, Thai rice prices, exchange rates, and inflation affect Indonesia's rice imports over the past thirty years. This research is included in quantitative research using secondary data. Secondary data sources in this study came from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Bank, and Bank Indonesia. Then this study uses multiple linear regression analysis techniques with time series data. The time series data used is 1992-2021. The analysis was carried out with the help of R-Studio software. The results of this study state that partially the variables of rice production, rice consumption, exchange rates, and inflation have a significant effect on rice imports that occur in Indonesia. There is only one variable that has no significant effect, namely the price of Thai rice. This happened because Indonesia agreed with Thailand. In addition, rice is a staple food so regardless of the price, people still try to consume rice so that the government does not reduce the amount of imports to meet rice reserves. Then simultaneously, all the independent variables used in this study have a significant influence on rice imports.
