Abstract

Final year students who are preparing their thesis are prone to experiencing academic stress. This study aims to determine the relationship between loneliness and academic stress in final year students who are taking a thesis. Loneliness refers to the lonely aspect of Weiss (Peplau & Pelman, 1982), academic stress refers to Gadzella & Masten, (2005). Subjects in this study amounted to 108 with participants. Participants in this study were final semester students who were taking their thesis with an age range of 18 to 25 years. This research is a quantitative research with correlational method. In this study, the UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3 was used, and Gadzella's Student-Life Stress Inventory. The resulting relationship is significantly negative with (R) = -0.550, which means that the higher the academic stress, the higher the loneliness felt by final year students, and vice versa. The contribution of the lonely variable to academic stress is 30.3% and the rest is influenced by any factor
