Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government closed schools and implemented distance learning for children. This situation has led a serious problem in the field of education, as children are instructed to learn from home. In response to this emergency, the KKN students initiated a flagship program called Pojok Baca "Pendopo NU" ("Pendopo NU" Reading Corner) with the aim of providing an alternative learning space for the children of Dusun Mojosari. The "Pojok Baca" aims to maintain the children's enthusiasm for learning and reading, despite facing unfavorable circumstances due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach, where primary data is obtained through interviews and participatory observations. The uniqueness of this research is that the researcher was present at the location and personally witnessed the events, thereby confirming the obtained data with the actual situation in the field. The theory used in this research is the Theory of Persuasive Communication. The goal of Persuasive Communication is to influence the recipients (communicants) to accept and agree with the ideas or messages conveyed by the communicator. Based on the author's experience, the implementation of Persuasive Communication in the learning process at the Pojok Baca "Pendopo NU" has proven succesfull in enhancing children's learning motivation and reading interest. The idea for this research originated from the author's experience during the KKN Program at Dusun Mojosari, Srimartani, Piyungan, Bantul. The KKN program lasted for one month and fifteen days amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, starting from July 12, 2021, until August 31, 2021.
