Abstract

HIV/AIDS transmission is dominated by negative behavior, so it is not uncommon for ODHA to be discriminated against by the public. In fact, many are not affected by risky behavior, such as those of housewives who contract HIV/AIDS from their husbands, whose mothers who are infected with HIV/AIDS from their husbands have proven to have a higher level of stress than other ODHA. Therefore, this study aims to provide an overview of the coping stress strategy used by housewives infected with HIV/AIDS from their husbands. This study is a qualitative descriptive study using a case study approach. This study involved 3 informants who were selected with purposive sampling techniques with criteria that were housewives infected with HIV/AIDS from their husbands. Data collection from this study used interview and documentation techniques. Research interviews other than being conducted on informants were also conducted with someone close to the informant. Data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation and conclusion/verification withdrawal. Results from this study showed that the three informants used more focused coping than the focused coping problem. In addition, the three informants' coping stress equations are acceptance responsibility and seek informational support. The study also found that there was a common coping stress strategy for ODHA and was conducted only on ODHA, hiding HIV/AIDS positive status from the surrounding environment, which was done to protect themselves from adverse responses to it. Another finding was that there was a program from the foundation that supervised ODHA, namely assistance by Peer Association (PS), and regular meetings from Peer Support Group (KDS), made the three informants more able to accept the conditions that occurred to them.
