Abstract

Communication in Education is the process of conveying knowledge from the communicator to the communicant. Communication has an important role in teaching and learning activities, but in carrying out the communication process it should not be done carelessly, but a pattern is needed in the delivery of appropriate communication as a support for delivering messages in the form of knowledge by a kiai to his students. As is the case with Islamic boarding schools, communication patterns are needed in conveying the meaning of the yellow book which is basically based on Arabic. Based on this background, the researcher conducted research on the formulation of the problem, namely how is the pattern of communication between kiai and santri to increase understanding of the yellow book which takes place at the Mathali'ul Anwar Putri Kepanjin Islamic Boarding School, Sumenep Regency? The research uses a qualitative approach, with a descriptive analysis type of research with data collection procedures using observation, interviews and documentation. The informants in this study were caregivers at the Mathali'ul Anwar Islamic boarding school for daughters, clerics and students. The results showed that: the most effective communication patterns used by kiai to increase their students' understanding of the yellow book are interpersonal communication patterns. Interpersonal communication patterns consist of dyadic communication patterns and small group communication patterns. The method used by the kiai is individually or by forming small groups (more than three people) in a room which is carried out face to face. Interpersonal communication is said to be effective because a smaller number of students can provide greater opportunities for each student to provide feedback in the form of questions, and the delivery of this feedback can be more easily conveyed.
