Abstract

This researchbackgroundby the many cases of sexual deviation such as sexual violence, LGBT, free sex and pedophilia. Parents' view of sex itself is still taboo, parents think that if sex education is given to children it means teaching relationships between men and women. The lack of understanding of parents about sex education makes parents not provide sex education for children. There are 77% of parents whose children attend Kindergarten in Muntuk Village think that sex education is important to teach their children, but 45% of parents feel confused about how to deliver it. The purpose of this study was to find out whether there is a relationship between knowledge and parents' attitudes towards giving sex education to children aged 5-6 years in Muntuk Village Kindergarten. This study used a quantitative method with data collection techniques, namely questionnaires. The population in this study were all parents whose children attended Kindergarten in Muntuk Village, namely 179 parents, the research sample was 123 parents using probability sampling technique. The data analysis technique in this study was univariate analysis to provide a description of the frequency and percentage distribution of each variable as well as the characteristics of the respondents and bivariate analysis to determine the relationship between variables using the chi-square test. The results of the univariate analysis showed that the majority of parents' knowledge about sex education was in the good category, namely 80.5%, and the attitude of parents towards giving sex education showed a supportive attitude, namely 61.0%. The results of the bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between knowledge and parents' attitudes toward giving sex education with a p-value of 0.002 (p <0.05). Factors that influence parents' knowledge about sex education are the respondent's age and last education, while factors that influence parents' attitudes towards giving sex education are the respondent's last education. The conclusion in this study is that there is a significant relationship between parent’s knowledge about sex education and the attitude of giving sex education.
