Abstract

Cognitive development has an important role for children's success in learning because some activities in learning are always related to thinking problems. The existence of a preparation center is the choice of a learning model that is appropriate to the child's situation, so that the child gets a pleasant learning experience and meets the needs of the child's growth and development. RA Masyithoh Karanganom is one of the institutions that applies the preparatory center learning model. The relation is in the cognitive development of children in the preparation center, 14 out of 17 children can already recognize numbers, there are children who can already imitate writing but don't understand what letters are, there are also those who don't understand the instructions given by the teacher and there are 3 children whose development is not optimal in follow learning. The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation of preparatory center learning in developing the cognitive development of children aged 5-6 years at RA Masyithoh Karanganom and to find out the supporting and inhibiting factors in the implementation of preparatory center learning in developing the cognitive development of children aged 5-6 years at RA Masyithoh Karanganom. This study uses a descriptive qualitative research method. Data collection techniques used observation in group B2 preparatory centers, interviews with school principals and group B2 teachers regarding preparatory center learning in developing children's cognitive development, and documenting learning activities in preparatory centers. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that the implementation of preparatory learning centers in developing the cognitive development of children aged 5-6 years at RA Masyithoh Karanganom; (1) Learning planning that has been done by compiling Prota, Prosem, RPPM and RPPH which refers to the themes, indicators, and objectives of learning. (2) The implementation of cognitive learning in the preparatory center starts from the simple first by introducing the language of symbols of numbers, followed by counting using fingers or other objects and associating objects with a number symbol, in addition to that, literacy learning in preparatory centers is supported by activities compose with a variety of different games and simple game tools. (3) The assessment is carried out using the child's daily assessment which contains indicators of the child's abilities determined by BB, MB, BSH, SB, and anecdotal notes written at the bottom of the child's daily assessment sheet. There are three inhibiting factors which include the incomplete media used, the readiness of the children, and the less conducive central space. While the supporting factors include teacher creativity and innovation, as well as motivation.
