Abstract

The rapid impact of the globalizing world along with the fast- paced industrialization and modernization, on the one hand, has led to better economy, but on the other hand, has eroded social values. As a result, there have been increasingly pervasive and vivid social impacts, violence, anarchism, social apathy and crime in Indonesia, which makes it increasingly crucial to shape students’ character through a school culture enriched with prophetic values to serve as the basis for the life of the nation’s generation to call for good and prevent evil and have faith in God. This study aims to reveal a prophetic social culture in character building at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Depok. There are three main problems discussed in this study. First, why does SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Depok cultivate prophetic social? Second, how is the prophetic social culture actualized in the behavior of school members at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Depok? Third, how is the construction of prophetic social culture in character building at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Depok? Using qualitative research method of an ethnographic approach, the research data were collected through observation, interview and documentation. The subjects in this study were school principals, deputy heads of curriculum, deputy heads of student affairs, deputy heads of Al-Islam Kemuhammadiyahan (Ismuba) and Arabic, Ismuba teachers and students. Data were then analyzed through the steps of data condensation, data display, conclusion and verification, while the validity of the data was tested using data triangulation. The results of this study indicate that: First, prophetic social culture was developed based on the paradigm of stakeholders who view SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Depok as an Islamic school. On this basis, the values developed at school are mainly prophetic values, or values that have relevance to Islamic education. Humanization is closely related to a person's attitude and behavior in humanizing humans to be more human, liberation refers to liberation from chaos, poverty, violence, anomie and anomaly, while transcendence is related to the purpose of life and human relationship with God and to get the title as the best people. Second, the realized synergy of prophetic social culture is reflected through humanization activities including social service, community service, and 5 S (smile, greeting, greeting, courtesy and politeness). Liberation includes Ismuba learning, anti- corruption character education, market days, basic food bazaars. Transcendence includes worship activities (prayers, dhikr, and supplications), free from illiteracy of the Qur'an, recitation, infaq, Ramadhan Youth camp by taking an integrated-holistic and reflective approach. Third, the construction of prophetic social culture is understood by integrating school paradigms, school policies, school programs and personnel according to all practiced programs through integrated-holistic and reflective concepts. The implications of this study indicate the importance of the commitment of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Depok personnel to promote prophetic social cultural activities through school programs, school regulations, learning and cooperation between parents and teachers to better integrate prophetic values in students’ life in the future.
