Abstract

This study aims to understand how the dialogue between text and context occurs in the process of creating the Dalāil al- Qur‘an fasting tradition. In addition, another starting point is to investigate how religious awareness is formed through the practice of the fasting tradition. This study uses a qualitative descriptive analysis method with the application of philosophical hermeneutic theory. Generally, in the previous research examines the impact of the Dalāil al-Qur‘an fasting practice on the perpetrator's personality. The differences with this study is the exposure of the creator's horizon relationship with contemporary readers who are far apart so that each has a different reception. Apart from that, the dialectic of the text and context in the historical trajectory shows that this practice runs dynamically. The emergence of this tradition cannot be separated from the influence of the history of KH Ahmad Basyir's life in the past. Through this practice, he wisely builds a family and educates his students with the religious, ethical and moral values of life that he has acquired throughout his life. In addition, there is a shift in meaning in the practice of fasting Dalāil al-Qur‘an. If earlier this fast was practiced in the context of educating and forming the mentality of the students, now the motive for its implementation has changed, such as positioning the Dalāil al-Qur‘an fasting as a method of memorizing, as well as its implementation due to environmental influences. Dalāil al-Qur‘an fasting remains relevant to practice today. This practice show that it is still alive in the lives of people based on culture and history. Through this practice, KH Ahmad Basyir with a salaf scholars have made a major contribution in forming religious awareness for the perpetrators. Meanwhile, there is a dynamic response between acceptance and rejection. Places that have similar principles with KH Ahmad Basyir tend to accept and vice versa. However, this practice still finds space in today's life. The practice of fasting Dalāil al-Qur‘an is a dialectical representation between text and context which gave birth to a cultural movement within Islam. This practice is not just a ritual action, but also an endeavor in forming religious awareness and inculcating ethical and moral life for its followers so that it remains relevant to be applied in the current context.
