Abstract

This thesis discusses "the effect of student digital literacy on information seeking behavior at the Library of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta". The study aimed to find out (1) how students' digital literacy skills (2) how students' information seeking behavior and (3) to find out the effect of student digital literacy on information seeking behavior at the Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University Library, Yogyakarta. Quantitative research was applied and the technique of analyzing the data used the mean and linear regression analysis. The sample of the study was 392 respondents consisting of students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Yogyakarta. The data collection methods were questionnaires and observation. The research results stated that: (1) The total weight of students’ digital literacy in the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta library was 3.32, so it was categorized as "very high" as described as follows: The search indicator via the internet with an average value of 3.65, and a direction guide indicator hypertext with an average value of 3.23. Information content evaluation indicator with an average value of 3.18 and knowledge preparation indicator with an average value of 3.24, overall categorized as “high”. (2) The total weight of information seeking behavior at the Library of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta is 3.32. Thus, it was categorized as "very high" as can be outlined as follows: Indicator Starting has an average value of 3.04 and indicator chaining (3.47), Indicator Browsing (3.37) indicator Differentiating (3.38) and indicator Monitoring has an average score of 3.29. Indicator Extracting has an average score of 3.28, Indicator Verifying (3.25) and Indicator categories ending has an average score of 3.40, altogether falling into the category “very high”. (3) the effect of digital literacy on information seeking behavior is 0.38 or 38%, namely, there is an effect of digital literacy on information seeking behavior in libraries 62% "information seeking behavior" is influenced by other factors not examined.
