Abstract

Research on the utilization of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) from coconut shell charcoal (Cocos Nucifera) for the photodegradation of methylene blue dye has been carried out. This study aims to synthesize reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and characterize reduced graphene oxide (rGO) from coconut shell charcoal (Cocos Nucifera), as well as determine the effect of variations in the duration of irradiation on the degradation of methylene blue using reduced graphene oxide (rGO). Reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was successfully synthesized with a yield of 3.9 grams using the Hummer method. The results of the characterization of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) using XRD showed 2θ peaks of 22,28° and 42,82°. Characterization of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) using FT-IR shows the presence of functional groups C-O, C=C, C=O, and O-H at absorption wavelengths of 1170.37 cm-1, 1564.08 cm-1, 1696.75 cm- 1, and 3204.89 cm-1. The results showed that the longer the UV irradiation time, the greater the percentage of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) in degrading methylene blue dye with an optimal time of 150 minutes of 86.9%.
