Abstract

Increasing customer demand requires companies to be able to increase the speed of their services. Improvement and quality control have a significant effect on the increase in productivity. PT. Sport Glove Indonesia is a manufacturing industry engaged in the textile and clothing sector. The company sets the repair product indicator value limit in the sewing department at 7%. Meanwhile, the sewing department for the period January 2 2023 to March 5 2023 has a defect percentage of 11.21% for repair. In addition, there is an increase in the percentage of defects, where January has a defect percentage of 11.01% while February has a defect percentage of 11.39%, this means that there have been no effective actions that can minimize product defects. It is necessary to do research on the production process of the sewing department to reduce the number of repair products. Efforts to reduce the number of repair products, namely applying the Six sigma DMAIC method. Based on the analysis, the selected defects are broken and loose stitches. The cause of the broken product is the target-oriented operator, and the upper and lower body are not precise because there are no tools. Meanwhile, the cause of sagging stitches is that there is no standard setting for machine maintenance time, and defects are not detected because checking is only at the end of the line. Proposed improvements to broken products by providing motivation to operators, instilling work slogans in operators, providing incentives in the form of money, providing tools in the form of tweezers, and providing assistance and training. As for loose stitch products, namely by setting a machine maintenance schedule and updating machine parts and then recording it on a control card in the form of a sticker affixed to each machine, a quality control operator on each line should have someone on patrol.
