Abstract

Productivity is a measure of performance that refers to production efficiency, the ability of a producer to convert a set of inputs into a unit of output. Production efficiency is affected by waste in the process. Waste is any production activity that doesn’t provide added value to the product. PT XYZ is a company that produces premium shisha briquettes. This study aims to identify waste in the briquette production process and provide appropriate improvement recommendations. The research focuses on hexa type briquettes using the lean six sigma (LSS) method with the DMAIC stage. The identification tools used are stopwatch time study, VALSAT, process activity mapping (PAM), value stream mapping (VSM), process cycle efficiency (PCE), critiqal to quality (CTQ), DPMO, sigma level, pareto diagram, Ishikawa diagram, 5W+1H, and BLOCPLAN. LSS is a method that aims to minimize waste, streamline material and information flow, and continuous improvement with increased accuracy and speed. Based on the analysis of seven wastes, there are inappropriate processes causing rework product and the long production time. Rework products have 1 CTQ with a sigma level of 1,957 otherwise long production time 1 CTQ with a sigma level 0,95. The initial productivity value in the form of PCE is 9,28% with a lead time of 324.342,262 seconds (90,1 hours). The proposed improvements for the waste are process simplification (seiton), SOP of machine maintenance (seiketsu), installation o side rails (seiri), SOP of production process (seiketsu), and installation of blowers in the cooling process (seiri). The proposed improvements are estimated to increase the PCE value to 14,93% and decrease the lead time to 201.724,006 seconds (56,1 hours).
