Abstract

This research is motivated by the participation of working wives in the family. In Gembong Village, most wives participate in earning a living, one of which is by working as factory laborers. The participation of wives working as factory laborers develops due to economic factors, including increasing needs while the husband's income is insufficient. So that it requires wives to participate in working with the aim of meeting family needs. On the other hand, working as a factory worker with 8 hours of work every day has an impact on the unbalanced division of husband-wife roles, poor communication, and misunderstandings that have the potential to undermine marital goals. To minimize this, a good husband-wife relationship needs to be implemented. A good husband-wife relationship is a relationship of equality and justice. So it is important to know the wife's position in gender relations that exist in the family of plywood factory workers in Gembong Village to realize a harmonious and gender-equal relationship. This research is a type of field research using a family sociology approach, this research is descriptive-analytic to describe the results of research through narrative writing. The data sources used are primary data from 5 couples whose wives work as laborers at the plywood factory PT Putra Tunas Subur and secondary data in the form of books, articles, journals, and sources related to the research title. The method of data collection in this research is through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique is done through the method of collecting data, reduction, display data, and verification/conclusion. The results of this study concluded that: (1) There are three types of relationship patterns applied by plywood factory labor couples in Gembong Village, namely headcomplement, senior-junior partner, and equal partner; (2) Head-complement relationships cause gender injustice in the form of women's subordination to men because the wife's position is superior to the husband. The senior-junior partner relationship creates gender injustice in the form of a double burden received by the wife. Whereas in the equal partner relationship, the position of the wife and husband is equal, no one imposes their superiority on the other. So it can be said that the equal partner relationship can realize gender equality because the position and authority of each husband and wife are equal.
