Abstract

Forms of gender inequality and discrimination in society today still exist. This inequality and discrimination that occurs is partly due to the patriarchal culture (considering the position of men higher than women). In this case, Fatima Mernissi with her concept of gender equality tries to provide an understanding of the position of women and men and change the mindset of society that men and women are equal. In addition, the concept of gender equality in Fatima Mernissi's view has similarities with KUPI (Indonesian Women Ulama Congress) but KUPI does not directly quote Fatima Mernissi's ideas. Not only that, so far the research that has been published does not specifically discuss Fatima Mernissi's influence on KUPI. The research that has developed is limited to the description of the idea of gender equality in Fatima Mernissi's view. This study raises two problem formulations including the first, how the concept of gender equality in the view of Fatima Mernissi, the second contains how the influence of Fatimah Mernissi's concept of gender equality on KUPI. This research has the aim of knowing the concept of gender equality in the view of Fatima Mernissi to know the influence of Fatimah Mernissi's concept of gender equality and also its influence on feminism in Indonesia, especially KUPI. Then this research uses a library research method and uses a qualitative-descriptive method. Primary data sources in the research Dream of Trespas: Tales of Harem Grillhood and the KUPI website (Kongeres Ulama Peempuan Indonesia). While secondary sources in this study are books and journals that match the themes relevant to the research and use data processing techniques with descriptive techniques. Research results from Fatima Mernissi's Gender equality and its influence on thinking at KUPI are as follows: First, the concept of gender equality in Fatima Mernissi's view is that women and men are the same, the only difference is their piety and gender. Second, the writings published on the KUPI website with Fatima Mernissi's thoughts contain similarities. Although in this case KUPI does not directly quote Fatima Mernissi's thoughts about women and men's positions, especially in the concept of leadership. Women can also be firm leaders like men.
