Abstract

The Pathok Negoro Mosque is a cultural heritage that needs to be preserved by the people of Yogyakarta. As the heir to the glory of the Muslim Mataram, Yogyakarta today remains an area with strong Javanese beliefs and traditions. However, it must also be acknowledged that the current generation is increasingly detached from the cultural, intellectual and religious heritage of the past, so they may not understand the meaning of the symbols associated with the Pathok Negoro Ad-Darojat Babadan . For this reason, the author tries to explain the symbolic significance of the construction of the Pathok Negoro Ad-Darojat Babadan Mosque, the history of the Pathok Negoro Babadan Mosque. And the icons of the Pathok Negoro Ad-Darojat Babadan Mosque. With this in mind, there are things we will answer in this study. What is the meaning and function of the architectural symbols of the Pathok Negoro Ad-Darojat Babadan Mosque? The research method used is a field study with a qualitative method. The data were collected by observation, interviews and notes, and then analyzed using Roland Barthes' semiotic and descriptive analysis methods. Research results show that the construction of the Pathok Negoro Ad-Darojat Babadan Mosque has symbolic, connotative and mythological meanings. Architectural elements such as the shape of the roof, guru saka and mustoko symbolize the flow of human life and embody the meaning of the pillars of Islam, faith and Ikhsan. The purpose of writing this thesis is to give an insight into the meaning contained in the Pathok Negoro Ad-Darojat Babadan Mosque, whose architecture is different from the works of other mosques.
