Abstract

This thesis explains about the information literacy ability of Baduy community based on socio-cultural perspective measured by IFLA and UNESCO standards. The purpose of this research is to find out, describe and analyze the information literacy ability of Baduy community based on socio-cultural perspective, as well as the supporting and inhibiting factors of information literacy ability of Baduy community. This research uses qualitative research design with descriptive approach. Data collection was conducted by observation, unstructured interviews and documentation as a complement and supporter of research data. the determination of informants in this study used purposive sampling with certain criteria according to the research objectives. the determination of informants in this study through key informants. The result of this research shows that (1) Baduy community is a community that is thick with traditions and beliefs in their tribe, their beliefs are practiced in their daily lives, including in information literacy activities. These beliefs have been passed down from generation to generation so that they have made an agreement in the implementation of their information literacy without realizing it. (2) The architecture of practice in information literacy in Baduy community has uniformity, because Baduy community is a community group with strong tradition and culture, so the practice of information literacy is also adjusted to their tradition and culture. (3) In Baduy community, their information needs are influenced by two things, namely as entertainment, and as a support for their work, but these two things are limited by their religiosity, so that in information literacy both for entertainment and for work support, it is still adjusted to their own socio-cultural conditions. (4) In Baduy community, information obtained from asking the customary leader, as well as parents, is considered as knowledge, without much analysis, because the source has been evaluated as "very reliable". These parents and customary stakeholders can then work as guides to the source of information, helping the younger generation of Baduy who are less experienced in finding information.
