Abstract
The mass media has an important role in spreading news to the wider community. Because from news, the public can find out about events that are happening or those that are hot to be the topic of conversation. During 2022, one of the news that became the topic of conversation was the cooking oil mafia case. The cooking oil mafia is a finding from the phenomenon of scarcity of cooking oil. In this case, one of the most widely discussed news portals is Kompas.com. Then in this study will discuss the framing of news about the cooking oil mafia case on Kompas.com in 2022 in shaping the construction of social reality. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research method. Where researchers try to describe, summarize various situations and conditions or existing phenomena that are the center of attention. Then in the news regarding the cooking oil mafia case by Kompas.com will be analyzed using the William A. Gamson framing model. In this case, two devices will be used to translate the central idea into news texts, namely (framing devices and reasoning devices). The results of this research show that the framing carried out by Kompas.com related to reporting on cooking oil tends to side with the general public or is critical of the government. This can be seen from the news narrative of kompas.com which continues to collect promises from the Minister of Trade Muhammad Lutfi regarding the alleged existence of a mafia which is the cause of the scarcity of cooking oil.
