Abstract

This research discusses the preservation of rare collections at the Kawedanan Hageng Punakawan Kraton Yogyakarta. The purpose of this research is to find out how the preservation policies applied at KHP Widyabudaya maintain their physical condition and to find out whether there are any obstacles in their implementation. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The subjects in this research were managers, implementers and people involved in implementing the rare collection preservation policy at KHP Widyabudaya. As for the object in this research is the rare collection preservation policy applied at KHP Widyabudaya. Data collection techniques in this research used three techniques, namely observation, documentation, and semi-structured interviews. The results of the research that has been carried out show that the preservation of rare collections at KHP Widyabudaya includes two collections, namely manuscripts and ancient books. Rare collection preservation include camperization, routine cleaning of collection cupboards, fumigation, and maintaining humidity and room air temperature. The main obstacle faced in implementing the policy for the preservation of rare collections is human resources, the human resources in charge of KHP Widyabudaya are mostly elderly so that it can reduce the quality of work considering that the energy and focus on someone who is elderly has decreased.
