Abstract

Community welfare is a prosperous condition that guarantees their health, education, economic conditions, happiness, and quality of life. This study aims (1) to find out the condition of the community before and after the existence of the Book Sharing Community, and (2) to find out the role of the "Buku Berbagi" Community in improving people's welfare in the Kali Mati area, Parangkusumo, Mancingan Hamlet, Bantul Regency, and Yogyakarta. This research method uses a descriptive and qualitative case study approach. The technique for determining informants used purposive sampling with the criteria of people who had been involved in the "Buku Berbagi" community for a long time and intensively, and people who were fully involved in the "Buku Berbagi" community's activities. The collection of data used is observation, interviews, and documentation. According to Sugiyono, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion are data analyses in this study. There were differences before and after the existence of the "Buku Berbagi" Community. Previously, the Kali Mati area was a garbage dump, people's income was uncertain, and children often spoke impolitely. After the existence of the "Buku Berbagi" Community, there was a waste management program, an increase in community income, and a more controlled attitude and behavior of children. The "Buku Berbagi" Community has several activities that have been carried out in various roles in the health sector, such as soup kitchens, sex education, and hand washing education. In the education sector, such as Sunday sharing and caring, and in the economic sector, such as wall decoration and waste banks. The existence of the "Buku Berbagi" Community can improve the welfare of coastal communities in Parangkusumo in the health, education, and economic sectors. However, the economic sector has not had a specific impact because it is still in the sales stage..
