Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of premiums, claims, operating costs, investment income, and risk-based capital on the profits of Sharia Business Unit Life Insurance companies registered with the Indonesian Sharia Insurance Association (AASI) for the 2017-2021 period. This study also uses a moderating variable, namely enterprise risk management, to see whether it can moderate the effect of investment income and risk based capital on company profits. The selection of the sample used a purposive sampling method which resulted in a sample of 16 Sharia Business Unit Life Insurance companies. The analytical method used in this research is panel data regression analysis and Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) which is measured using Eviews 10 software. The best analysis model chosen in this study is the Random Effect Model. The results showed that the premium and investment income variables had a positive and significant effect on company profits. Meanwhile, the claims variable has a negative and significant effect on company profits. Then, the variable operational costs and risk based capital have no effect on company profits. After using the moderating variable, investment income has a negative and significant effect on company profits. Meanwhile, the risk based capital variable still has no effect on company profits.
