Abstract

Income inequality is a subject of discussion that is always studied in economic science, apart from the fact that this problem is increasingly visible day by day, there are also many factors that cause income inequality to occur in society. Among the causes of economic inequality are education, population, poverty and economic growth that occurs in an area. The island of Java is the island with the highest population among the other islands in Indonesia, namely 159 million people, which means that the island of Java is inhabited by approximately 60% of the total population of Indonesia. This research aims to test whether education, population, economic growth and poverty influence income inequality on the island of Java. Data was taken from the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics for the period 2013 - 2022. The method used in this research is panel data regression analysis with the help of the E-VIEWS 10 analysis tool. From the results of this research it can be concluded that the variables Education, Population and Poverty have a significant positive effect on Income inequality in provinces throughout Java. Meanwhile, the economic inequality variable has a significant negative effect on income inequality in provinces throughout Java.
