Abstract

This study aims to discover how the discourse of structural poverty displayed in the movie Turah. This research uses descriptive research and qualitative approach with Teun A. Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis method. The results showed that the movie Turah displays of structural poverty in the form of lack of healthy housing facilities on problems in meeting the needs of clean water, lack of education on inability to meet the cost of education and difficulties in accessing school, lack of communication with the outside world on not using electronics, and lack of legal and government protection in the lack of attention from the government, also there are groups that control, namely Darso and Pakel and groups that are controlled, namely the people of Kampung Tirang. While the causes of structural poverty at Kampung Tirang are inadequate road access, so that village areas are isolated; low level of education and health services due to limited access to education and health services. In addition, there is a hyperreality that refers to something that exaggerates things that do not exist in real conditions, which is shown by the absence of structural poverty characteristic in the form of lack of clothing and food. There is also a simulation created in the movie Turah through a symbol of power in the social relations of the society, where Darso and Pakel as the controlling group are symbols of the city government of Tegal, and the people of Kampung Tirang as the controlled group
