Abstract

This research was motivated by the difference found by researcher at the Nurul Fikri Solo tutoring institution and other tutoring institutions in general. Tutoring institution generally use the curriculum as a reference in learning to produce graduates who are accepted at State Universities, while the Nurul tutoring institution does not use the curriculum as a reference in learning. The Nurul Fikri Solo tutoring institute uses syllabus as a reference to produce graduates who are accepted in State Universities. The aims and uses of this research are to determine: 1) the efficiency of using the syllabus as a reference in the learning process at the Nurul Fikri Solo tutoring institution; 2) institutional management at the Nurul Fikri Solo tutoring institutiton to produce graduates who are accepted at State Universiies. This research is descriptive qualitative reseach carried out at the Nurul Fikri Solo tutoring institution. Determining informants in this research was carried out using a purposive sampling technique because the researcher had certain considerations in taking the sample. The informants in this research were staff in charge og the Nurul Fikri Solo tutoring institute, mathematic teacher, Indonesian language teacher, English teacher, and TPA (Academic Potential test) teacher. Data collection uses observation, interview and documentation technique. Data analysis in this research includes transcript, coding, grouping, contrasting and comparing, and interpretation. Researcher uses triangulation of data sources in checking data validity. This research results show that: 1) the Nurul Fikri Solo tutoring institution does not use the curriculum as a reference in the learning process, but uses a syllabus. The use of syllabus is considered to cover all the needs of students in order to be accepted at State Universities. This can be seen from the percentage of students admitted to State Universities which reaches 70%-90% every year; 2) the Nurul Fikri Solo tutoring institution implements planning, actuating, and controlling management function quiete well although there are still shortcomings, but the implementation of the actuating management function at the Nurul Fikri Solo tutoring institute is still lacking because the actuating process is only limited to the marketing process for prospective students.
