Abstract

Education cannot be separated from various problems such as curriculum problems and the low quality of education. In order to solve a problem that occurs in the world of education, educational innovation is needed. A popular educational innovation held by schools in Indonesia is the superior class program. With efforts to respond to the development of education that is increasing and competitive with the competition of educational institutions, schools can improve the quality of schools with superior class programs. This research is a qualitative study conducted at the educational institution of SD Ma'arif Nurul Jannah Kulon Progo with the aim of describing the innovation in the management of superior class programs, the characteristics of superior class programs and the impact of innovative management of superior class programs. Data collection in the form of interviews with a total of 13 informants, observation and documentation. Data analysis is done by data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. While the validity test carried out is by means of source triangulation. The results showed that SD Ma'arif Nurul Jannah uses two ways to innovate, namely imitation studies in observing methods carried out in several Islamic boarding schools, one of which is Ponpes Tahfidzul Qur'an Anak Nurul Ulum and the current synthetic method, namely the classification of superior class programs tahfidz and tahsin. The steps to innovate are from the emergence of the idea of a superior program that is classified, screening carried out from 3rd grade students to 4th grade, business analysis can face competition in the world of education, development is followed up with a memorization test at the end of the semester, testing is carried out for half a semester by applying methods that have been filtered from the results of copycat studies, and implementation is held there is a boarding school class. The characteristics of the superior class program are student input with the target of memorizing juz 29 and juz 30 as a condition for class determination and selection, supporting facilities and infrastructure, namely projectors and cellphones, a conducive learning environment is a characteristic that is still a challenge for schools, having an innovative principal by striving to always control the educators, an innovative superior class program curriculum, a quality learning process as evidenced by the end ofrussanah every year, the addition of activities and programs outside the curriculum only special hours in the morning for the superior class program, fostering leadership abilities that have been maximized. The impact of innovation in the management of superior class programs has negative and positive impacts.
