Abstract

The role of education in instilling tolerance is in the form of embracing all existing differences, one approach to instilling tolerance is Living Value Education So far, tolerance has only been discussed and its implementation has not been carried out optimally, therefore, it is important to understand, live, and realize the importance of implementing tolerance in the midst of community diversity, Living Value Education seeks to raise awareness in students, reflect and bring values to life. Tolerance in Tumbuh Junior High School is not only taught through classroom learning but, students are given direct experience with various activities that reflect tolerance both at school and outside the classroom. This activity is an activity in a series of Living Value Education activities. This research uses a type of qualitative research with a psychological approach. The data collection methods carried out are observation, interviews, and documentation. Test the validity of the data in this study using triangulation techniques and source triangulation. The data analysis used in this study is Milles and Huberman model analysis which consists of data condensation, data presentation, and conclusions. The results of this study show that:. 1) the process of forming the character of tolerance, the perspective of Living Value Education is divided into two, namely a value-based atmosphere and value-based activities. The tolerance value-based atmosphere in SMP Tumbuh is first, multicultural, namely respecting, understanding, appreciating differences in the Tumbuh Junior High School environment. Second, Inclusive in the form of implementing inclusive education by accepting students regardless of the condition of these students and the existence of equality between students with special needs and regular in the classroom. Third, it is integrated with school culture, namely the attitudes and behaviors of school residents who show tolerance. Furthermore, tolerance value-based activities are part of the school program consisting of religious holiday celebrations, Kamis Pahing, Scouts, Morning Carpet, and Forum Group Discussion (FGD). 2) The results of tolerance character building in Tumbuh Junior High School Based on the Living Value Education Perspective, namely the awareness to apply tolerance by school residents, the transformation of school residents to have an attitude of tolerance, the feelings of school residents after implementing tolerance, the absence of barriers after implementing tolerance, teachers as leaders of change have been able to create agents of change in students characterized by students who apply tolerance not only at school but also in the family and community environment.
