Abstract

Islamic education is an important component in the development of individual Muslims. However, new challenges emerging in the information age require a more dynamic and relevant approach to religious education. The concept of Merdeka Belajar introduced by Najelaa Shihab offers an interesting perspective in addressing these challenges. The concept emphasizes student independence and intrinsic motivation in learning. However, the relevance and applicability of this concept in the context of Islamic education still requires deeper understanding. This study aims to explore the concept of Merdeka Belajar from Najelaa Shihab's perspective and analyze its relevance to Islamic education. This research uses a qualitative approach with literature study and content analysis methods. Data will be collected through analyzing texts relevant to the concept of Merdeka Belajar from the perspective of Najelaa Shihab and Islamic education. Then to complement the sources of information in the research, interviews are conducted directly with the figure. The results of this study show that the concept of independent learning from Najelaa Shihab's perspective and its relevance to Islamic education are First, commitment to the goals of Islamic education, such as the formation of noble morals and strong faith. Second, material, the integration between the concept of independent learning and Islamic education allows exploration of various learning resources that enrich their understanding of the Qur'an, Hadith, fiqh, and ethical values. Third, the importance of reflection in independent learning directs students to internalize Islamic values in daily life through contemplation and analysis. This research is expected to provide a view of how the concept of independent learning, so as to enrich Islamic education by giving students freedom over their own learning. It can be the basis for further research and real changes in Islamic education. In addition, it can be applied practically in Islamic learning, developing a more adaptive curriculum, as well as theoretical contributions to the understanding of Islamic education in the modern era.
