Abstract

The objectives of this research are: 1) to find out the use of the library area as a public space; 2) to know the interests of visitors to libraries; and 3) to learn the influence of the utilization of the area of libraries as a public space on visitors' interest in libraries at the University of Yogyakarta Library of Philosophy. This research approach is quantitatively descriptive; the population of librarians who visited during the last six months in 2022 2023 Methods of data collection include queries, observations, documentation, and interviews. Data measurement with a Likert scale, a scale of four answers Validity test with the product moment formula and reliability test with the alpha cronbach formula There are four stages to analyze the data: descriptive analysis, correlation test, classification assumption test, and a hypothesis test comparing the t count with a t significance measurement table of 0.05 (5%). The results of this study are: 1) The use of the library area as a public space in the University of Yogyakarta Physiological Library, based on the calculation of the recapitulation average, obtained a value of 3.30, including in the category very good, 2) The interest in visiting the librarian in the UGM Yogyakarta Library is based on calculations of recapitulations obtaining a mean value of 3,10, which belongs to the category good. 3) There is a positive influence between the variable of the use of library space as public space and the interest of the visiting librarians in the UGM Physiologic Library Yogyakarta, as evidenced by the count value of 14.343. Besides, it also has a positive correlation value of 0.827, which is an excellent interpretation. The result of the regression test on the use of the library area as a public space is Y = 0,088 + 0,970X, which means that if the utilization of library areas as public spaces is increased to a value of 1, then the interest of visitors will increase by 1.05. Overall, the factor of the usage of the library area as public space against the visiting interest of librarians is 68.4%, with the remaining 32% due to the presence of other factors.
