Abstract

The case of the murder of a woman whose body was discarded and underwent decomposition until it became a mummy was chosen as the subject of this research because the case attracted attention as the investigators faced difficulties in determining the suspect and the victim's identity in the initial stages of the investigation due to the lack of available evidence. Therefore, the investigators needed the assistance of forensic pathology, which uses scientific methods to investigate the cause of someone's death. The main problem of this research is to examine and analyze the role of forensic pathology in proving the crime of murder, as well as identifying the obstacles faced in forensic examination. This research is field research which aims to describe the phenomenon being studied. The approach used in this research is juridical-empirical, which combines legal aspects with empirical observations. The data collection method involved interviews, observation and documentation with informants from the Bhayangkara Hospital Forensic Team, DIY Regional Police and Magelang Police investigators. The analysis that will be used in this research is qualitative descriptive analysis. In processing data, the compiler uses evidentiary theory which aims to present evidence that is relevant to criminal cases so that judges can make the right decisions. The results of this research show that Forensic Medicine can be used as evidence because the results of the examination can explain the cause of a person's death and can be used to find the perpetrator. The use of scientific-based investigative methods used by the police and the forensic team at the Bhayangkara Regional Police Hospital in DIY has succeeded in effectively assisting the disclosure of criminal acts of murder at the investigation stage with supporting and inhibiting factors such as the condition of mummified corpses and the absence of evidence that shows victim’s idenity.
