Abstract

Persuasive communication refers to the intentional process where a communicator delivers a message to a recipient with the aim of influencing a change in attitude or action desired by the communicator. This study focuses on the persuasive communication techniques employed by the Foundation Managers of Kasih Anak Kanker Foundation (YKAKI) in Yogyakarta to instigate motivation among children suffering from cancer due to issues related to lack of motivation found in these children. The approach adopted by the foundation managers is qualitative descriptive, utilizing data collection methods such as interviews, direct observations at YKAKI Yogyakarta, as well as documentation. The research findings illustrate a variety of persuasive communication techniques applied by the YKAKI Yogyakarta Foundation Managers to stimulate motivation and enthusiasm in children coping with cancer. These techniques are tailored to suit the diverse conditions, situations, and unique characteristics of each child, emphasizing a heart-to-heart approach coupled with effective emotional management and engaging, light, and controlled physical activities that effectively uplift the motivation of children afflicted with cancer at YKAKI Yogyakarta.
