Abstract

Tourism development has the ultimate goal of increasing people's income, which ultimately can improve people's welfare and economic growth. The Borobudur Tourism Area as the main tourist destination in Indonesia has aspects that are very supportive to be developed further. Therefore, a Cultural Tourism Village was formed in the vicinity of the Borobudur Temple area, including Candirejo Village. This study aims to describe the process of community economic development carried out by Candirejo Village to improve the economy and the impact of the establishment of Candirejo Tourism Village for the community. The author uses a type of research with a descriptive qualitative approach. The data collection was carried out by documentation techniques, interviews with 6 informants and observations, and triangulation techniques to validate the research results. The study found that the formation and development of a tourism village goes through 5 D stages (Discovery, Dream, Design, Destiny, Develop). The community in a village is enthusiastic to develop the tourism potential in their village. They hope that this village tourism can improve the community's economy. The government supports the development of tourism villages by providing training and strengthening of community groups. This training aims to make the community more open and able to innovate in developing tourism villages. This tourism village has a positive impact on the economy of the surrounding community. Small businesses of the community are lifted up and become more well-known. This tourism village does not interfere with the social life of the community. This tourism village is quite environmentally friendly because the community can sort organic and inorganic waste. Organic waste is used for animal feed, while inorganic waste is collected at a waste bank. The findings of this study indicate that the development of tourism villages can be a successful strategy for improving the economy and welfare of the community. The government and the community must work together to ensure the sustainable development of tourism villages.
