Abstract

This thesis examined Charity for the Poor (Dhuafa) with a case study at Sedekah Rombongan Yogyakarta. Based on previous studies regarding traditional and modern philanthropic social philanthropy institutions tended to maintain social activities with a charity pattern on one edge, while on the other hand, charity activities have begun to be abandoned which are oriented towards longterm programs with a management system that tends to be elitist and professional which results in each of the two philanthropic institutions denied each other, this research examined the philanthropic institution Alms Group which is based on social volunteerism as a form of charity activity by displaying work professionalism in the institutional management system as a form of combining the systems of the two previous forms of philanthropy. Apart from that, what is no less important than the problem behind this research is the government's role in accommodating the needs of the poor, such as the increase in fuel prices which has resulted in an inflation rate of 0.97%. This study is a qualitative research using the triangulation method in collecting data related to the social charity institution Sedekah Rombongan Yogyakarta which is based on social volunteerism by conducting direct interviews with the management of the institution and the recipients of alms benefits, namely the sick poor who have been doing this for less than more than three months. The social charity institution Sedekah Rombongan Yogyakarta, which is based on social volunteerism, is one of the traditional philanthropic charity institutions that is charitable but seeks to adopt some of modern philanthropy, especially in the management of the institution. The practice of providing health assistance for the poor with health facilities and ambulances available at the Alms Shelter Home, shows its charitable activities. However, on the other hand, efforts to recruit salaried professionals in the field of financial administration, medical personnel and ambulance drivers are only an effort to facilitate technical activities, but social volunteerism and charitable activities remain the main priority in Alms Group's work activities in current philanthropic practice. For this reason, by providing health for the poor, the Yogyakarta Sedekah Group (Sedekah Rombongan Yogyakarta) is helping to achieve the government's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in the field of public health.
