Abstract

As one of the oldest educa-tion systems in Indonesia, Islamic boarding schools play a role in the for-mation of character and leaders in the future of education. It has become commonplace to have a counseling program for students which is useful as a forum for students to express their problems. One of the problems that students have is homesickness. Homesickness is a feeling of longing for the comfort and atmosphere at home. This usually occurs among new students because adjustments are needed to be able to adapt to the new environment. This research has as its background the phenomenon of homesick-ness that occurs among new students at the Al-Musthafawiyah Islamic Boarding School. This research discusses individual counseling methods in overcoming the homesickness of new students at Al-Musthafawiyah Islamic Boarding School, Bogor. By implementing individual counseling carried out by the dormitory guardian as a counselor at the Al-Musthafawiyah Bogor Islamic Boarding School, it helps new students who experience symptoms of homesickness to adapt well so that it does not interfere with their study pe-riod at the Islamic Boarding School. This research aims to determine indi-vidual counseling methods in dealing with homesickness of new students at Al-Musthafawiyah Islamic Boarding School, Bogor. This research uses a qualitative field research approach where data analysis is explained de-scriptively. The result of this research is a directive counseling method used in individual counseling to overcome the homesickness of new students at Al-Musthafawiyah Islamic Boarding School, Bogor. The dormitory guard-ian as counselor at the Al-Musthafawiyah Islamic Boarding School imple-ments counseling services using the directive counseling method, namely a counseling method that is carried out by directing the problem being expe-rienced by the counselee centered on the counselor. This was chosen be-cause the dormitory guardian can provide stimulants directly to students who experience symptoms of homesickness
