Abstract

Palu City, Central Sulawesi, stands as one of the regions in Indonesia vulnerable to various types of natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, liquefaction, floods, and landslides. These diverse disasters illustrate Palu City's high potential for disaster risks, especially in fault zones, steep hilly areas, and along riverbanks. Disaster mitigation efforts involving local government organizations (OPDs) and disaster mitigation programs are designed to reduce the impacts and safeguard the population from these threats. The disaster risk analysis in Palu City, Central Sulawesi, encompasses various types of disasters, indicating the need for comprehensive disaster management measures. In the context of disaster communication in Palu City, the role of preachers holds significant importance in three main disaster phases: pre, during, and post-disaster. They function not only in strengthening faith but also as disaster volunteers providing practical assistance and conveying messages that support long-term recovery. The disasterstricken community's perception demonstrates that these messages offer guidance during disasters, although there's an awareness of the importance of integrating preaching messages with disaster mitigation information and collaborating with disaster agencies and local authorities. The conclusion of this research emphasizes the necessity for comprehensive disaster management in Palu City and the pivotal role of preachers in various disaster stages. Suggestions for preachers include considering disaster prevention and mitigation practices in their preaching content. Collaboration between disaster agencies and religious figures is also recommended to enhance public awareness regarding disasters. Recommendations for future researchers involve exploring different perspectives, such as the roles of women, youth, or organizations, in the context of disaster communication, to provide a more comprehensive view of other actors' roles in disaster mitigation in Palu City.
