Abstract

Poverty is a complex problem that hinders the progress of a country's economic development. Demographic theory can pose a threat to poverty in a country if it is not accompanied by appropriate government policies to support economic progress. This research seeks to analyze the influence of fertility, mortality, migration and urbanization on poverty in ASEAN in 2012-2022 with per capita income as a moderating variable. This research uses a random effect model approach with Generalized Least Squares (GLS) and Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) to analyze the data. Statistically, the results show that there is a significant positive influence on the fertility variable, while mortality, migration and urban society have a significant negative influence. Meanwhile, the per capita income variable is able to moderate urban society on poverty. However, per-child income in the fertility variable has no effect on poverty. Thus, it can be concluded that to reduce the percentage of poverty in ASEAN, the government needs to create a birth restriction policy.
