Abstract

Local content collections are one type of collection managed by the Salatiga City Library and Archives Service (Dinpersip). The library has a commitment innovating local content products that elevate the socio-cultural of Salatiga City. In line with this practice, Salatiga City has also become a Tolerant City where its-assessment takes into account government regulations and actions. This commitment is an interesting phenomenon that can be explored as a basis for developing local content collections in public libraries. This research aims to be examined the local Salatiga City Dinpersip content collection as a support for socio-cultural balance based on the management, formation and functional aspects of collection. The research used a qualitative-exploratory approach and data harvesting was using observation techniques, interviews with informants and documents relevant to the research objectives. Informant selection used purposive sampling to determine the main informant and snowball sampling to determine other informants. Data results from informants were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results, the Salatiga City Dinpersip implements the development of local content collections through publishing collections independently in collaboration with local writers. This collection has a theme about the city of Salatiga. The publication pays attention to collection management that oriented towards indigenous knowledge potential of the Salatiga City which is carried out by accommodating suggestions for indigenous knowledge topics and the work of the community and/or about the City of Salatiga. Proposed local wisdom topics are then published internally collaboratively with appointed authors. Publishing has a functional aspect as documenting indigenous knowledge and increasing the community's potential to support socio-cultural equilibrium through discourse contained in local content. Furthermore, developing local content collections also brings out cultural mediators potential in librarian-itself.
